Get any painting or wallpapering done early. You want to make sure that this is done at least a month or so before you expect your baby. This way you can take time to air out the room. Painting the room can lead to fumes that could be harmful to your baby, but if you get the room ready early and aired out, there should be no problems at all. Using paint that is odourless and fume free can be a great help if you leave the decorating until the last minute.

If you know the sex of you baby, it will be easier to choose your colour scheme, theme and baby bedding early. If you order your baby bedding online you'll need time for it to arrive at your home, no doubt you will be excited and want to get the crib all set up, then all you have to do is put your baby in the crib when you arrive home from the hospital. Of course, there are a few safety tips to remember when it comes to the baby bedding. For the first year make sure you keep pillows and comforters out of the crib, a light weight quilt and soft sheets are all you will need to keep baby warm and comfortable. Comforters and duvets are far too heavy for a tiny baby and could cause suffocation.

Remember too, to have extra baby bedding on hand. Your baby is a little spitting and peeing machine for the first few months of his life. You can guarantee that the bedding is going to get soiled pretty often. For this reason you should aim to have several sets of baby bedding on hand.

Have fun picking out the accessories for the nursery. If you have your baby bedding already, you'll probably have a theme. Set up a nappy changing area. You can purchase a nappy changing table or if you're short on space, a cot top changer, make sure that all the supplies are on hand, if you use a cot top changer add a cot tidy too, this will keep all the lotions, wipes and baby necessities close at hand so you won't have to leave your baby to find something you need. It will certainly help to be ready, since you'll be changing plenty of nappies when your baby finally arrives.

Remember, NEVER leave your baby alone on a changer or changing table, accidents can so easily happen..

Have a place to sit in your baby nursery, try to have a place where you can sit down to breastfeed, cuddle your baby or simply have some alone time, a comfortable armchair or rocker would be ideal.
